About Joanna Smith

"Just get it down on paper, and then we'll see what to do with it." Maxwell Perkins

I graduated in English Literature at London University, and qualified as a teacher at Cambridge University. I then spent 2 years teaching in Tanzania followed by 13 years in Mozambique. Here I was teaching literature and training teachers at the Universadade Pedagogica in Mozambique, as well as teaching at the British Council. I've written three screenplays which were filmed in Southern Africa and distributed in Portuguese-speaking countries.

After arriving in Lyme Regis, I set up the Black Dog Writing Group in 2008, motivated by a desire to belong to a community of people who love writing. I completed a non-fiction book about Lyme Regis which was published in August 2014 by Roving Press. My latest screenplay has been accepted for production by a Mozambican film company. I am currently researching a novel set in Devon in the 1660s.
